As part of ‘Queenstown Week 2017’ Destination Queenstown is offering anexciting programme of Australian insights and presentations from industry leaders in our sector and have extended an invitation to Tourism Central Otago members.
This programme of informative and educational presentations are available at no cost.
The schedule of presentations is listed below, followed by a bio and presentation outline for each speaker.
An RSVP for every session is essential as places may be limited. Please email reception@queenstownNZ.nz clearly outlining which sessions you wish to register for, by Friday 27 October.
MONDAY 30 OCTOBER
Kirstie Dyer-Grose – Air New Zealand (Australia) [11am-12pm]
Kirstie joined Air New Zealand’s Australian team in February 2012 as an Operations & Ticketing Consultant before moving into the sales team in 2014. Now in her third position within the company as Business Development Manager Group Sales & MICE, she has represented the Kiwi carrier across both retail and corporate channels in every state of Australia.
Having recently introduced a revised state based structure, Kirstie will be sharing the region's new framework and growth ambitions within the Australian market which sees Air New Zealand refocusing on their trade relationships in each state. She’ll also share a high level company update including recent results and updated Go Beyond Strategy to supercharge New Zealand’s success. And finally a snapshot of the Australian market place and activity across the Retail, Corporate and Business Events channels.
Oliver Carthy – Blue 449 [12pm-1pm]
Oliver is the client lead on Tourism New Zealand at Blue 449, their Australian media agency. He has worked in the Australian market for five years having transferred from London and has experience working with major brands across alcohol, FMCG, automotive, e-commerce and tourism.
His presentation will cover an Australian media market update and provide insight in to this changing landscape and how to navigate it to build awareness, consideration and ultimately drive more Australians to visit New Zealand and its regions.
Sue Sullivan – Conference and Incentive New Zealand
Helen Bambry – Tourism New Zealand [3pm-5pm]
Sue Sullivan, CEO of CINZ and Helen Bambry, Business Events Manager – Australia for TNZ, will jointly present an update on all things Business Events in the Australian market. The presentation will cover recent activities as well as providing detailed insights with specific focus on Australian association business including barriers and perceptions for conferencing in New Zealand.
TUESDAY 31 OCTOBER
Tony Saunders – Tourism New Zealand [10am-11am]
Tony is a proud Kiwi who relocated to Australia 14 years ago. Tony has been working for Tourism New Zealand in Australia for the last 6.5 years, firstly as Regional Marketing Communications Manager, and more recently as General Manager. Prior to this Tony held a range of senior marketing roles in FMCG and the fast food industry. Tony will give an Australian market update.
WEDNESDAY 1 NOVEMBER
Gary O’Neil – The New Zealand Story [9am-11am]
Gary O’Neil is the Marketing Manager at NZ Story. With over 20 years private sector experience he will assist you to craft your amazing story to help push our fantastic nation’s reputation 'beyond natural beauty'. Storytelling was the original design practice. Through oral histories, fables and proverbs we told stories that met human needs for learning, remembering and envisioning the future - the 'what might be' and 'how might we' that has been the essence of innovation and design from the beginning. Gina Samuels – The Production House Events [4.15pm-5.15pm]
Gina Samuels has over 17 years’ experience in event management and corporate marketing. In 2009 Gina co-founded The Production House Events which has grown to be one of Australasia’s leading boutique professional conference organiser and meetings specialists. Gina is passionate about creating and producing innovative and memorable events that help businesses reach their full potential. Through her extensive experience and knowledge of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events, Gina along with her team assist businesses to create outcomes that match both their ROI goals and company objectives. Gina’s vision is “I believe in creating experiences that are truly memorable.”
Gina will deliver an energetic, interactive workshop that will leave participants with extended knowledge of the Australian PCO market and how to sell effectively to them. The session will include: tips on how to make your business appealing to Australian buyers; how to make your business stand out; what PCOs need from suppliers in terms of quote and site inspections; the value of a bureau; insights into Australian C&I trends; what competing destination are doing and mistakes to avoid.
This workshop will offer techniques rather than theory and will give you a view of the industry from a PCO’s perspective.
THURSDAY 2 NOVEMBER
Lauren Quaintance – Storyation [10am-11am]
Lauren Quaintance is co-founder of Storyation – an award-winning content marketing agency that counts Tourism New Zealand, Tourism Queensland and Carnival Cruises among its clients. A former writer for North & South magazine and editor of Auckland's Metro magazine, Lauren was also General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of Travel for Fairfax Media in Australia. One of the most high profile former journalists working in content marketing, she regularly judges media and marketing shows in Australia including ADMA, BEFest and Publish and speaks at conferences such as the Travel Marketing Summit and Travel Daze. When she’s not helping travel clients to create content that people will actually want to read, she continues her quest to visit every Australian island writing travel stories for Qantas magazine in Australia among others.
Elizabeth Davidson – Time Zone One [11am-12pm]
Lizzie Davidson heads up content strategy for international creative agency, TimeZoneOne. She specialises in working with destinations, attractions, and adventures, creating powerful content to help them attract more visitors. She works with the Illinois Office of Tourism, Expedia, Destination Queenstown, and a number of RTOs and CVBs in New Zealand and the US. She will speak on matching content to the different stages of the traveller’s decision journey, to inspire, inform, convert, and win loyal visitors.
